A lot of times, when people want to detox, they turn to a juice cleanse. It seems like a quick fix where you are bound to feel like a new person after! However, quick fixes are usually not as legit as they seem. Real change takes work! Juice cleanses are highly overrated and not desirable for your body. They may fill your body up with nutrients, but they also fill your body up with a lot of sugar and leave you feeling irritable and hangry. Like many things, juices are amazing in moderation. Just not as your only source of energy for days at a time! So, how do we detox in a less extreme way when we feel sluggish after poor eating/drinking? Keep reading to learn how to detox your body without going on a juice cleanse.
Eat clean, including detoxifying foods.
Eating clean does not have to be taking extreme measures. It means eating a balanced diet full of fresh foods with lean protein, fruits, and vegetables. And say no to processed foods! If you are looking for a detoxifying drink, try warm green tea with lemon. As mentioned in The Best Foods to Fight a Cold, green tea is known for its detoxifying properties from antioxidants. And lemon helps your body flush out toxins. Make sure you also include foods that are high in fiber, because fiber allows the green tea with lemon to be effective by getting your gastrointestinal system moving to flush out the bad.
Sweat.
In my opinion, there is no detox as good as sweating. Sweat literally contains the toxins in your body! So when you sweat, you are naturally eliminating toxins. And when you drink water after your workout, you are rehydrating your body with what it needs. Plus, working out releases endorphins which will help you to de-stress. This also helps your body detoxify, as I will explain next.
Meditate.
Having strong mental wellness involves having less stress. And less stress actually means less toxins! It is crazy how our mental health links so closely to our physical health, and this includes how well we are able to detox. If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, try taking time in the morning to meditate. It could be for only 5 minutes, but that 5 minutes will make a difference in your stress level for the entire day! Learn the basics of meditation in my article on How to Morning Meditate.
