Meditation can be intimidating. I used to constantly look up how to meditate and would question if I was doing it right. The funny thing is, this completely ruined my meditation! The goal of meditation is to create a peaceful awareness of your body and mind. This means that meditation is on YOUR TERMS! There is no “right” way to meditate, as long as your end result is feeling self-aware and empowered.
Keep reading below for a guide on how to morning meditate.
Step 1:
Wake up – wait for it – without checking your phone. Hit the “off” button on your alarm and put it back down because morning meditation is tech-free.
Step 2:
Find a quiet place to sit and meditate. Make sure you are not surrounded by clutter or near anything that might stress you out. Choose a zen space where you can feel relaxed. If the weather is nice, sitting outside is a great option.
Step 3:
Set a timer. This is the one time you can break the “tech-free” rule! If you are just beginning, five minutes is a great time to set. If you have had practice with meditation, reach for whatever time limit you feel comfortable with or have time for. Once you set your timer, put it somewhere that you cannot see. You must refrain from thinking about it during your meditation.
Step 4:
Close your eyes, open your mind, and focus on your body. Take deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth, and focus on each breath. Stay aware of your posture rising and of your connectivity to the ground you are sitting on. If you are outside, listen to any sounds of nature you might hear. If your mind starts to wander, make a quick correction without being hard on yourself.
Step 5:
Reflect on your meditation. How do you feel? Meditation should make you feel connected within your mind, body, and soul. It should make you feel like you are living in the moment without anxiety or worry. If you feel uneasy after meditation, try to figure out where your mind may have wandered. The great thing is, you can try again whenever you have only five minutes of free time.

Where do you find is the best place and time to meditate? Any personal preferences? I’m afraid if I try to mediate in bed before getting up, I will want to fall back asleep! Excited to try mediation for the first time after reading this post!

I would absolutely fall back asleep if I tried to meditate in bed! I like to wake up, get out of bed, drink some water to wake up a little, and then find a space with a lot of natural morning light. Personally, I open my blinds and sit on my carpet beside my bed. I prefer to meditate in the morning to start my day off strong, but it can definitely be used in the evening to destress as well. Hoping you like it after your first try but remember to be patient with yourself too. My mind still wanders a little sometimes and that is totally okay if you realize it and refocus yourself!
