Happy New Year! With the first day of a new year brings the opportunity for a clean slate. Goodbye to any negative energy and events from the past year, and hello to a fresh start! To create that fresh start, you might have considered a New Year’s Resolution or two. Whether it may be related to fitness, relationships, work, self-care, or something else, it can be a lot of fun coming up with ideas about how you can better yourself this year. To ensure you truly bring these these ideas to life, see below for 3 tips for how you can make your goals a reality this year.
Tip #1: Reflect & Celebrate
Take some time to reflect, not dell, on the past. When thinking about the past year, it can be easy to consider everything we didn’t get to. All the goals that we put aside and all the things we didn’t accomplish. I promise you, we will get to that part! But first, what wins did you have over the past year? What was exciting, what made you smile, and what did you achieve (whether it was planned or unplanned)? Make note of these things and remember to celebrate them as you look ahead to the coming year!
Now that you’ve thought about everything that was good over the past year, take some time to consider what was missing. This is your chance to list all of the to do’s that you didn’t get to, or all of the goals that slipped away. Once you have your list, think about which ones will truly fit into and enhance your current lifestyle to bring you greater happiness and/or health.
Once you have considered both the wins and the things you felt were missing over the past year, you will have a more well-rounded lense of how things went and how you’d like them to continue going. Use this perspective to create your goals for the coming year, to ensure you are considering it all.
Tip #2: Consider the Bigger Purpose
Often times with goal setting, we think about what actions we need to take to reach our goal. As you set your goals for the new year, make sure you also consider what your actions will do for you.
For example, one of your goals might be to go to the gym more. Instead of going to the gym 3x a week because it’s important to work out or you want to look good for someone else, think about what it will do for you. Will it boost your mental health? Your self-esteem? Will it increase your energy and make you feel lighter on your feet? Will it enable you to do that marathon you’ve always wanted to try? When you consider the bigger purpose of a goal and how it will improve how you feel, you will be more likely to stick to it.
Tip #3: Manifest It
When you are setting goals, manifestation can truly make a difference in bringing them to life! There are different ways that you can manifest what you want, including using manifestation affirmations. Another way to utilize these affirmations is to speak in the past tense and envision your future. Imagine, the coming year has passed, and you have accomplished all of your goals. For example, if your goal is related to fitness, you might imagine yourself in the future saying that you ran a marathon. Imagine the photos, the smiles, the fun meal after where you celebrate and devour your food. When you truly believe that something will happen, and think of it as if it has happened already, you will make it happen.
I hope these tips help you make your goals for next year a reality, and that this year brings a new year, better you.
